RETRACTION NOTICE
To: The General Public, Law Enforcement Agencies, and All Relevant Stakeholders
We are issuing a formal retraction of our previous report published on 16th January 2024 regarding the alleged widespread kidnapping and displacement of residents in Gullum Community, Kona Ward, Jalingo Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Upon further investigation and thorough review of the facts, we have discovered that the report was grossly exaggerated and contained unsubstantiated claims. The investigation revealed that while there may have been isolated incidents of crime in the area, the report’s assertions of widespread kidnapping and displacement were inaccurate and misleading.
We take full responsibility for the mistakes and any potential harm caused to the reputation of the community, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders. We understand that our report may have caused unnecessary panic, anxiety, and concern among the public, and for this, we are truly sorry.
In light of this, we advise the general public to disregard the report in its entirety. We also extend our sincerest apologies to:
– The people of Gullum Community, Kona Ward, Jalingo Local Government Area of Taraba State, for any harm caused to their reputation and well-being.
– The law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and other security agencies, for any unnecessary deployment of resources or attention diverted to the area based on our report.
– The Taraba State Government and Local Government Council for any potential reputational damage or distraction from their developmental efforts.
