MDZOUGH U TIV NEWS PRESIDENT GENERAL OF MDZOUGH U TIV WORLDWIDE PREACHES UNITY AMONG TIV SONS AND DAUGHTERS IN TARABA STATE Monday, 11th May 2026 The President General of Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide, Chief CP Iorbee Ihagh (Rtd), PSC(+), PMI, has visited Tiv kinsmen in Taraba State to assess their wellbeing and strengthen ties among the Tiv people. During the visit, the President General met with the leadership of Mdzough U Tiv, Taraba State Chapter, and held a marathon five-hour interactive session with Chief David Gbaa, the Ter Taraba and Ter Bali II. The meeting took place in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital. Chief Ihagh urged Tiv leaders and stakeholders to intensify peacebuilding efforts among Tiv sons and daughters, emphasizing tolerance, understanding, and brotherhood even in the face of provocation. According to him, there is no better time than now for Tiv people to awaken to a new orientation that promotes unity and revives the spirit of brotherhood which the Tiv nation was once known for. He lamented the growing tendency among some Tiv people to react to minor provocations from fellow brothers with excessive anger and retaliation, describing the attitude as unnecessary and harmful to the collective progress of the Tiv nation. The visit, he noted, underscores the organisation’s commitment to grassroots mobilisation, cultural cohesion, and peaceful coexistence across Tiv communities in various states. Speaking further, Chief Ihagh stated that the trip was aimed at strengthening unity, peace, cultural values, and development among the Tiv people in Taraba State, where they constitute a significant population. He stressed the need for harmonious coexistence between the Tiv and other ethnic nationalities in Taraba State, as well as in states like Nasarawa where Tiv people are indigenous, noting that peaceful coexistence remains essential for collective progress and development. The President General also urged Tiv people to become their brothers’ keepers and to abandon the “if not me, then no one” mentality, which he described as a retrogressive spirit that must be eradicated from among the people. Chief Ihagh further encouraged Tiv sons and daughters to actively participate in politics by seeking elective positions, supporting one another, and building strategic alliances capable of producing electoral victories in forthcoming elections. In his welcome address, the President of Mdzough U Tiv, Taraba State Chapter and host of the meeting, Prof. Ityodough Hemen Agere, decried the declining level of unity among Tiv people, contrary to the past when Tiv sons and daughters freely demonstrated love, solidarity, and support for one another, especially in times of difficulty. He noted that the lack of unity has weakened the influence and popularity of the Tiv people despite their hard work and contributions to society. Prof. Agere pledged to intensify efforts toward promoting peace, reconciliation, and proper reorientation among the Tiv population in Taraba State. In his remarks, His Royal Highness Chief David Gbaa, the Ter Taraba and Ter Bali II, commended the untiring efforts of the President General of Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide, Chief CP Iorbee Ihagh, alongside his team, especially Barrister Iorwuese Ahile, Legal Adviser to the President General, for their sacrifices and dedication toward mobilising and organising the Tiv nation across the globe. Chief David Gbaa expressed confidence that the peacebuilding efforts championed by these distinguished personalities would yield positive results in Taraba State. Also speaking during the visit, Dr. Gedeon Avar, Managing Director of NOBIS Eye Centre, Jalingo, who was present to encourage the team on the noble peace initiative, prayed for God’s guidance, strength, and success upon the delegation and their commitment to fostering unity among the Tiv people.
