College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Jalingo Secures ₦1.8 Billion TETFund Intervention, Matriculates New Students
The College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Jalingo has successfully secured approval for projects valued at ₦1.8 billion under the 2025/2026 intervention of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), marking a major stride in its ongoing institutional development.
This development coincides with the matriculation of newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session, signaling the official commencement of academic activities in earnest.
The matriculation ceremony, held at the institution’s public square, attracted dignitaries from the Taraba State Ministry of Tertiary Institutions and other key stakeholders in the education sector.
Addressing the matriculating students, the Commissioner for Tertiary Institutions, Dr. Mike Dio Jen, who was represented by the Director of Quality Assurance, Emmanuel Abashi, reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to the advancement of education. He emphasized the administration’s focus on strengthening technical and vocational education as a catalyst for sustainable development.
The event marked another significant milestone in the college’s transformation into a leading centre for science, technology, and vocational training.
In a post-ceremony briefing, the Rector, Dr. Yakubu Garjila, highlighted key achievements recorded since the institution’s upgrade from a College of Agriculture to a full-fledged College of Agriculture, Science and Technology.
Dr. Garjila disclosed that following the institution’s admission into TETFund last year, it has been positioned to benefit from substantial interventions. He revealed that the approved ₦1.8 billion will be deployed toward critical infrastructure development, as well as the training and capacity building of both academic and non-academic staff.
Also speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, represented by the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Bakari Aliyu, commended the college for aligning with the university’s vision of academic excellence and digital transformation.
He further acknowledged the sustained support of the Taraba State Government under the leadership of Agbu Kefas in repositioning the education sector for greater impact.
Prof. Aliyu also revealed that the college has commenced fifteen undergraduate programmes in affiliation with Taraba State University. These programmes provide a seamless academic pathway for Higher National Diploma (HND) and National Diploma (ND) holders to gain admission into degree programmes through Direct Entry.
He encouraged students to maximize these opportunities, emphasizing the importance of academic diligence and innovation in today’s competitive global environment.
The event not only welcomed a new cohort of students but also underscored the institution’s growing stature as a hub for quality education and human capital development in Taraba State and beyond.
