Tiv in Taraba Commend APC Over Mchivga’s Emergence, Seek Action on Farmers’ Killings

The Tiv people in Taraba State have commended the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for electing Princess Margaret Mchivga as the party’s State Women Leader, describing her emergence as a significant milestone for the Tiv community.
The Tiv community also appealed to the Taraba State Government and relevant security agencies to intensify efforts to end the recurring killings of farmers and other violent attacks in parts of the state.
The commendation was made during a special reception organised in honour of the newly elected APC State Women Leader, Princess Margaret Mchivga, who hails from Chanchanji Ward in Takum Local Government Area of the state.
The event, which attracted political leaders and stakeholders from across Taraba, was marked by solidarity and celebrations, underscoring what participants described as the growing unity within the APC in the state.
Speaking at the occasion, the Gum Begha U Tiv Taraba, Chief David Gbaa Tela, reaffirmed the loyalty and commitment of the Tiv people to the development of Taraba State.
He dismissed claims suggesting that the Tiv community was not cooperating with the state government, describing such assertions as sweeping statements capable of creating unnecessary divisions.
Also speaking, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Mr Aaron Artimas, urged the Tiv people to give their full support to the newly elected women leader, stressing that her emergence represented a historic development as, according to him, she was the first person of Tiv extraction to occupy the position.
Artimas further called on the Tiv community to support the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas, particularly in its efforts to promote development and political inclusion across the state.
In a paper presented at the event, Dr Chia Azuaga of Taraba State University urged the government to accord greater recognition to traditional institutions in governance.
Azuaga argued that traditional rulers were closer to the people and, by virtue of their position, were better placed to understand the challenges and needs of their communities.
In her remarks, the celebrant, Princess Margaret Mchivga, expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, and the APC leadership for entrusting her with what she described as one of the key responsibilities within the party.
She pledged to deploy her experience and commitment towards achieving meaningful results in her new position, while promising to work with party members and stakeholders to strengthen the APC.
Also speaking on behalf of the family, Chief Tegh Tegh Shaakaa, a Special Adviser to the Governor, expressed appreciation to the party leadership and the governor for the honour done to the family.
The event featured cultural displays, assorted dances and other entertainment, with political leaders, supporters and members of the Tiv community joining in the celebration.
