EXPECT POSITIVE ADMINISTRATIVE IMPACT WITH DR. KEFAS AGBU’S NEW PARTY AFFILIATION – EL-SULDI, APC CHAIRMAN
The news of Taraba State Governor, Dr. Kefas Agbu, leaving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) has spread across the state and beyond, sparking diverse reactions from citizens and political observers.
While some have alleged that the governor’s defection is driven by a quest for greater political power and influence, the APC State Chairman, Hon. Barr. Ibrahim Tukur El-Suldi, holds a different view.
According to El-Suldi, Dr. Agbu’s move to the APC should be seen as an opportunity for positive administrative transformation rather than a political maneuver.
“Contrary to public perception that the governor’s performance under the PDP was unimpressive, I strongly believe he will perform better under the APC,” El-Suldi stated.
“If he once had PDP blood in him, once he joins APC — a progressive party — we will infuse him with our progressive ideology and values. I assure you, he will turn a new leaf and deliver even better governance.”
On the issue of restructuring the APC leadership to accommodate the influx of the governor’s supporters, the chairman clarified that the current party structure will remain intact until the expiration of its tenure in March 2026.
He explained that,
“From the state down to the ward level, the structure will remain unchanged until the official timetable for party congresses is released. That will be the appropriate time for the governor and other new members to form alliances and integrate fully into the party framework.”
El-Suldi further emphasized that despite the diverse and competitive interests within the APC, the party remains united and formidable.
“We have our internal competitions, but that’s the beauty of democracy. What’s important is that APC remains one strong and cohesive family,” he said.
Addressing speculations about an automatic party ticket for Governor Agbu in future elections, El-Suldi dismissed the notion, reiterating the party’s commitment to internal democracy and fairness.
“APC is a democratic and progressive party that upholds equality among its members. Every aspirant, including Governor Kefas Agbu, will go through the same transparent process. There will be no special or preferential treatment for anyone because we stand for inclusivity, not exclusivity.”
El-Suldi concluded by expressing optimism that Dr. Kefas Agbu’s entry into the APC will enhance the administrative and developmental performance of Taraba State under the banner of progress and unity.
